Welcoming a new baby into the world is one of the most emotional, fleeting seasons in a family's life. The newborn stage passes in the blink of an eye—and as your Fairbanks-based newborn photographer with over 13 years of experience, I’m here to help you preserve it beautifully.
If you’re considering booking a newborn session, you may be wondering what to expect. My goal is to make the entire process feel effortless, safe, and meaningful—so you can focus on your baby while I focus on creating fine art portraits that will become part of your family’s legacy.
When to Schedule Your Session
The best time to photograph your newborn is between 7-21 days old, while your baby is still in that dreamy, sleepy phase that allows for those peaceful, curled-up poses. To ensure availability, I recommend reaching out during your second or early third trimester to reserve your due date on my calendar. I will pencil you in and then once your baby arrives, we’ll set a firm session date.
What to Expect on Session Day
Your session will take place at my professional studio in Fairbanks, designed specifically for comfort—both yours and your baby’s. The space is quiet, warm, and soothing, with everything on hand to keep your little one cozy and content.
Sessions typically last 2 to 3 hours, allowing time for feeding, changing, and snuggling. I provide a curated collection of wraps, blankets, headbands, bonnets, and props so you don’t need to bring a thing—though you’re always welcome to include special heirloom items.
You’re encouraged to sit back and relax while I gently pose and photograph your baby with patience and care. You’re welcome to nap, scroll, or just watch as your baby’s first portraits come to life.
Your Role as a Parent
You don’t have to worry about how your baby will “perform.” I follow your baby’s cues throughout the session and allow plenty of time for feeding, settling, and cuddling.
If you’d like to be in a few portraits yourself—or include siblings—we can absolutely do that! I’ll guide you through natural, simple poses so that your family portraits feel effortless and timeless. And I provide you with wardrobe advice prior to the session for all members of the family!
A Signature Style Rooted in Simplicity and Meaning
My newborn sessions are built around a fine art, minimalist approach. I focus on your baby’s natural beauty and tiny details using neutral colors, coordinating palettes, organic textures, and soft lighting.
Every pose and prop is chosen intentionally, with your final artwork in mind. I use only safe, baby-led posing techniques, and your child’s comfort and well-being always come first.
After the Session: Choosing Your Artwork
Within a week of your session, you’ll return to the studio for your Ordering Appointment. This is when you’ll view your fully edited portraits and choose your favorite images for albums, wall art, and custom prints.
You’ll receive guidance in selecting the best ways to showcase your images in your home, whether it’s a handcrafted album, a statement wall piece, or gifts for family. A digital file is always complimentary with any print purchased.
